Obedience

Edwards sought to attain much heavenly reward. This is shown in his 22nd resolution. One can only question if there will in fact be levels or degrees of heavenly reward. This post unpacks that and so much more.

Heavenly Reward and Our Greater Capacities for Happiness

We often speak of a heavenly reward. It's usually said in relation to the phrase “you can't take it with you.” The “it” in this case is all the stuff we acquire in life. Our homes, cars, clothes, gadgets, toys… even our money. This stuff is stuff we gather, collect,...

Spiritual warfare is very real. We must therefore pursue of broader discipleship so we can stand firm in our faith while in a world that wants to call us guilty as we are fulfilling a divine calling.

The Reality of Spiritual Warfare and The Battle for Your Heart

Spiritual warfare. It’s a term that conjures all sorts of visual representations. And it probably varies greatly by culture. I can’t claim to be all that knowledgeable about it, and I have kept my life mostly ignorant of the concept. I like to live in my little bubble...

In Kingdom Citizen, Tony Evans presents a compelling case for renewed emphasis on the relationship of God in culture. We’ve forgotten a call to disciple believers and remember God as utmost in our lives. We’ve got to align ourselves under his covenantal rule.

Are you going through life and not really knowing how to live? The Bible talks about this, specifically in Ecclesiastes. I think of that book every time I hear Audioslave’s song, “Show Me How to Live.”

I Need Somebody to Show Me How to Live – for Real

One of the worst fates is going through life and not ever knowing how to live. I mean genuinely knowing how to live fully with freedom to be you and pursue your purpose. The Audioslave song, Show Me How To Live is one that always gets me pondering that premise. Some...

Looking for a life transformation? It might come from “5 easy steps.” But it probably won’t. A true life transformation begins as a quest for the heart.

True Life Transformation Begins in The Heart, and We Can’t Do it Alone

The idea of life transformation isn’t new. Although, it’s usually mentioned in the context of self-help or motivational speaking, those quests are overwhelmingly fruitless. In fact, there is no shortage of books, videos, blogs, conferences, pyramid scams and the like...

Throughout life, there are many personal influences. How can we be mindful of them and learn to filter the appropriate from the undesirable?

The Right Personal Influences and Being Mindful of Them

We encounter gray areas in many ways. But, just because it’s not clearly one way or another, have we gone too far by considering a “gray area” to be synonymous with “yeah, it’s wrong, but since it’s a gray area, it’s okay”? Edwards saw this likelihood, and perhaps he drafted resolution 39 for that reason.

Are You Too Comfortable in the Gray Areas of Life?

Life comes with a lot of gray areas. We meet them in many situations, whether it’s in business, marriage, following laws, or otherwise. Too often, though, when someone says, “it’s sort of a gray area" they say it to infer “yeah, it’s not right, but it’s a gray area,...
