Then came one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name, and seeing him, he fell at his feet 23 and implored him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay your hands on her, so that she may be made well and live. ~ Mark 5:22-23

Ever had a bad day? If you’re like me, there’s nothing that can change your mood on those days. Ever had something that eats at you so much, you can’t stop thinking or worrying about it? It eats you apart for hours – days – weeks. Maybe you seek counsel, but it’s often unhelpful because you just can’t let go. Simply put, you’re this “black pit” of despair. It’s those moments in that pit when we should recall Jairus – the “diffuser of light.” Jairus came to Jesus because he knew He was the only light capable of saving his ailing daughter. He believed in the power and willingness of Jesus. Sometimes, we just have to also. Before Jesus could reach Jairus’ house, his family came and told Jairus that the girl had died. Despite all his efforts, and being so close to saving her, she still died. Yet, Jesus responded to Jairus in saying, “Don’t be afraid; just believe” (Verse 36). He ultimately went to the synagogue ruler’s home and raised the young girl. Remember that life will bring troubles and frustrations - those black pits of despair - often despite our best efforts. It’s a reality of this world. The secret to getting out is in our repsonse; in asking, "What is the proper Christian response to our situation?"
