One of my favorite verses of any book in the Bible is Isaiah 44:8 which reminds us that our one true source of stability and solid ground is our God the Father. He is the one stronghold to which we all cling.

In 2007, I did a blog that I called “No Other Rock” in tandem with a devotional. That year had a great influence upon my personal development and spiritual growth as I set out a personal quest to seek God’s favor in awakening my heart and sobering my mind.

Years later, I wrote the following poem one Sunday morning just before Church began. It’s one of the few times that words literally flowed from my heart and mind to paper without continual second guessing of meter, order and other silly poetic rules.

There is no other rock.

Now, without further ado, I offer the poem, “That Rock” for your consideration.

By the way… I’d love to hear what you think. Please comment and let me know.

That Rock

I love the way you speak to me,
and tell me what I cannot hear.

I love the way you speak to me,
and show me what I cannot see.

When I become so full of this world,
You sober my soul,
and bring me back to You.

When I fall on my face,
or stumble in my walk,
You are there to lift me up.

May I ever focus my life on You,
mighty Lord.
Speak to me the way…
the way only You can do.

Because I’ll always know,
there’s no other rock
than the Rock that is You.

Isaiah 44:8
Do not tremble, do not be afraid.
Did I not proclaim this and foretell it long ago?
You are my witnesses. Is there any God besides me?
No, there is no other Rock; I know not one.”
