I am lucky to have gotten fatherly advice from my dad. That’s true whether he offered it intentionally or not. I like to think I’ve also given some fatherly advice to my own children during their lives.

In the first chapter of Listen Up, Kids, I share one of the most raw and emotional moments that ever took place between my dad and me as he was battling cancer near the end of his life. I’ve also shared some other interactions and details about my father here at 1Glories.

I think a lot about him and with Father’s Day coming up, this week is no exception. What I wouldn’t give for just one more chicken BBQ or have him show me how to fix things. I’d ask him if he really thinks deer are at roadsides because they’re addicted to cigarette butts. Maybe he is onto something there.

How I would love to just thank him and tell him I love him.

Today, I am excited to be sharing some fatherly advice and life lessons from my dad.

Fatherly Advice from My Dad

I was fortunate enough to get fatherly advice from my dad

Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. – Proverbs 22:6

My dad often claimed to have no fatherly advice to give. I never thought that to be true, as I took a lot away from things he taught me. I recently shared two key moments in a guest post at Manly Training. In addition, I also share why they were impactful and how they stay with me as I raise my own kids.

Give it a read and then comment here. Or, comment here and let me know about some fatherly advice your father gave you as a child and has stayed with you.
