I have always been a dreamer. I’ve been called one as both a compliment and as in insult over the years as I have said “how about we…” or “what if we…” My actions are most often built upon facts, but I’ve also been known to seek longings of the heart over longings of the mind. It’s served me well in many instances. But I’ve also had a terrible curse that has kept me from achieving many smaller goals that are necessary to achieve those bigger dreams.

I’m a coward.

That’s right. I’m afraid of success. The moment a spotlight reaches me, I take every possible action to get out of it. Quickly. That usually involves shining it on someone else.

I dig a lot deeper into this fact in #LUK – Listen Up Kids: Foolish Dreams, Syncing with God and Running as Though you may Obtain it, but for now, the area I want to focus is on its scope.

I’ve never been afraid to dream big. And I’m never been afraid to start out on the path toward achieving those dreams. But, inevitably, somewhere on the path, I begin to consider the enormity of that dream, how things may change, and the burdens of responsibility that may stem from achieving those dreams. So…

I chicken out.

1Glories is a tangible example of my cowardliness. I registered this domain in 2010 with the intent of building a ministry that God called me to establish. That “dream” had been incubating in my heart and head for a couple years before that. Yet, even after I went through the motions of registering the domain, building a website and a variety of other actions, I remained passive in my commitment.

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. ~Romans 8:28

Because I was afraid succeeding would change things.

Routine, by its very natures, breeds comfort in our lives. We’re comfortable because repetition creates proficiency and minimizes the chances for failure. We’re comfortable because we know what to expect and will therefore have fewer surprises that will force us to make difficult decisions. We’re comfortable because things are safe.

There is no dream that's too big for God. Trust in Him when He has called you to achieve the "impossible"

But fear cheats God.

There is no dream that is too big for God. And we are not a people who were created to play it safe. We were created to serve and glorify God. And in that course of service, God may call us to do something big. Over the next several days and into the coming weeks, I’m going to share some stories that are designed to inspire us to have greater desires. To reach beyond our general zones of comfort und truly see what happens when ordinary people aspire for something more.

So Dare to Dream Big

In their course of their doing so, they become groundbreakers, heroes, teachers, servants. They dared to dream bigger than themselves, putting fear aside and living for something more.

I’m looking forward to this journey and hope you’ll join me by commenting on the posts, sharing on Facebook or Twitter, suggesting individuals who embody the spirit of dreaming big for the purpose of serving our God’s greater desires.
