I think many of us can relate to feelings of being directionless, hopeless, aimless, and more or less empty. In our desperate hope, we reach out to God. We call on him and beg for mercy even though we are undeserving of it. We’ve strayed too far and too often from God and we question why we should ever be welcomed back.

When we submit, swallow our pride and humbly seek forgiveness, we’re granted everything that was seemingly missing. And that’s why “Song to Sing” by Manic Drive has made my #Praylist.

Finding Refuge for our Restlessness

The song starts out with the telling of a familiar scenario…

Stumbled through the front door
I’m an impostor
Find peace in this holy church
Sitting in the back row

Trying to not stand out and find our place amongst the other sheep, we do what we can to blend in…

Opening the hymnal
Try to mouth the words
I know it’s been a while
Since I was a child
And I might remember though
That was many years ago
And Lord it’s been far too long
Since I sang this song

This broken man needs to sing…

Chorus:
How great thou art
Sings my soul, my savior God
How great though art
On that old rugged cross
You gave me song to sing
You gave me song to sing

Receiving Assurance of Refuge and Wisdom

Start to pay attention
To the words I’m singing

Our past is behind us. We experience the peace received through the blessed assurance of a new season beginning…

And we start a new refrain
My past is darkness
Need to find forgiveness
It’s time to turn the page

It wasn’t by accident that we got there and the words speak right at our heart…

That’s when I came across
A song about the lost saved
By your amazing grace
How sweet the sound, how great
And Lord it’s been far too long
Since I sang this song

Refuge Found by God’s Amazing Grace

Working on our heart’s we begin to understand the magnificence of our God. His power and his might. His everlasting and omnipotent control. And, we contrast God’s great and powerful love with a song. A simple melody that brings us to our knees and proclaims God as our loving, kind and just savior.

And how you’ve led me to here
I never could explain
But I’m on my knees at the alter
And I scream your name
You take me in just as I am

And with your love you bring

A simple song to sing

But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy, and spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may exult in you. – Psalm 5:11
