Refining Life, on Purpose

The Character Builder’s Bible Goes Deeper Into the Stories

When teaching kids about the Bible, it’s easy to lose focus of the character of the people. This is where The Character Builder's Bible: 60 Character-Building Stories from the Bible comes in. This thick, hardcover book packed with 60 Bible stories containing illustrations, definitions, and memory verses. It’s perfect for showing our kids that God’s Word is relevant to their lives.

Who’s your favorite character in the Bible? It’s a simple and innocent question. I do, however, find myself often getting frustrated at that question. When we ask it, it’s sort of like asking who you favorite character of a popular movie or television show is. When we say “character,” it insinuates a make of fiction. Moreover, it doesn’t actually get to the real point of the question: why are they your favorite?

When I teach my kids about the Bible, and the people of it, I want to teach them the character of the people. I want them to know these were real people who God used – and continues to use to this very day through his living word.

This is where The Character Builder’s Bible: 60 Character-Building Stories from the Bible comes in. This thick, hardcover book by Agnes de Bezenac, Salem de Bezenac, from iCharacter Limited is an amazing teaching tool.

I was fortunate enough to receive a review copy from the publisher, and have been delighted to be learning with my children ever since. What follows is my personal review of the book.

Character Development in Images, Words, and More

This book is packed, featuring 60 Bible stories with illustrations, definitions, and memory verses. It’s perfect for showing our kids that God’s Word is relevant to their lives.

Readers will quickly notice the amazing illustrations from the moment they pick up the book. It’s clear that they were well-thought through and developed by some amazing talent. They are colorful, appropriate and vibrant. Most importantly, though, they are perfect complements to the copy that is accompanies them.

Speaking of copy, the structure of the book is simple and clear. Each “chapter” begins with an introduction to the character being explained. It’s opened with a verse and then the story of the character is detailed – in a simple but not demeaning language.

Next, the character trait is defined – again, in simple language. This is where most books would call it a day. Not this one, though. After introducing the trait, presenting the story, and defining the character trait, the book provides practical applications of it in everyday use. And then, there’s a memory verse to help further instill the meaning and significance of the character trait.

Going Deeper Into the Story

Bible Stories are one of the main ways for engaging kids. They are relatable and great for keeping attention. However, the Bible is more than a collection of stories. The Bible is a message of God’s love for us and it’s a practical guide to personal development.

Oftentimes, though, children hear stories but miss how to apply the principles. The Character Builder’s Bible highlights several character traits within 60 different stories of the Bible. Not only that, it teaches and suggests some fun and practical ways to live out these traits. The language is down-to-earth and easy for little minds to understand.

So, if you are looking for an effective way to teach character to your kids or youth, get a copy of the The Character Builder’s Bible: 60 Character-Building Stories from the Bible. It’s one that the whole family or Sunday School class can work through together, and one you’ll review many times over.
